Are you ready to set off on your Fiat Ducato-based motorhome? Before you drive away, let's have a look at the main features of the devices that work to ensure the safety of Ducato.
Good visibility backed by the best safety systems is essential for motorhome owners who are about to start their journeys around the world. In addition to a chassis designed specifically to be converted into a motorhome and excellent braking systems, Ducato offers you the most advanced safety technologies, which are reliable even in the most extreme conditions, to ensure top-notch safety on board.
Here are the main ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) features available for Fiat Ducato-based motorhomes.
The specific features may be optional for individual motorhome manufacturers. All equipment levels and optional features may vary according to the specific version chosen for your motorhome, to the market or to legal requirements.
ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)
This system cuts in in emergency situations, such as sudden swerving to avoid obstacles. The device monitors a number of parameters, including side acceleration, speed, ground grip and steering wheel angle. It processes the data and, if necessary, adjusts engine torque and braking system to make the motorhome perfectly stable again.
HILL HOLDER
Do you often travel on mountain roads and need to start uphill? This device will hold the brakes, preventing the vehicle from rolling back, without needing to use the handbrake. Brake release is automatic and integrated with the ESC.
ROLL OVER MITIGATION
Keep your feet and your wheels firmly on the ground. With this new and additional ESC supporting feature, you will improve vehicle stability on all types of roads, even when cornering.
TRACTION+
Traction+ is a control system that improves the traction of your motorhome on slippery surfaces. In presence of ESC and in case of poor grip on a drive wheel, the control unit detects slipping and applies the brakes to transfer torque to the wheel with the best grip on the ground.
LANE DEPARTURE WARNING SYSTEM (LDWS)
Straight off on your way. With the Lane Departure Warning System you will be able to determine whether your motorhome is moving off lane, even in bad weather and poor visibility. An acoustic and visual signal will alert you to the possible imminent risk in case of danger.
TRAFFIC SIGNS RECOGNITION (TSR)
By using the onboard LDWS camera, the TSR recognises speed limit and no overtaking road signs and shows them on the instrument panel display.
REAR CROSS PATH DETECTION
By using radar sensors, Rear Cross path Detection (RCD) system detects vehicles approaching sideways while you are reversing. It helps to avoid accidents when manoeuvring, especially for vehicles with limited viewing angles, such as motorhomes. The device will help you identify vehicles and objects which are perpendicular to your path and alert you of their presence by means of sounds and icons on the instrument panel.
RAIN AND DUSK SENSOR
It can't rain forever, but you're all set. The rain sensor activates the windscreen wipers and adjusts their speed according to the intensity of the rain. The dusk sensor will automatically switch on the low beam in case of insufficient light outside.
CRUISE CONTROL AND SPEED LIMITER
Keep your speed constant using Cruise Control. The Speed Limiter integrated with the Cruise Control can set the maximum speed which can be reached by the vehicle to the benefit of safety. Pressing the throttle fully to exceed the set limit, for particular for overtaking.
TYRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM (TPMS)
The device continuously monitors tyre pressure and indicates any decreases on the instrument panel display.
BLIND SPOT ASSIST
The Blind Spot Assist (BSA) detects approaching vehicles that you cannot see in the rear-view mirror using radar sensors. The system will warn you in case of danger with a visible light signal on the mirror and an acoustic signal. Blind spots will no longer be a problem.
REAR-VIEW CAMERA
The rear-view camera is available on request. It is incorporated in the third brake light and provides a wide, detailed view on the screen of the radio, with reference lines designed to help determine the distance of obstacles. The system is automatically activated in reverse at speeds below 15 km/h. It can also be activated when the vehicle is stationary, without reverse gear engaged, with the rear doors open. It will help you to park more easily and without stress.
HIGH BEAM RECOGNITION
The device in the presence of Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) switches the high beam headlights on and off. It increases visibility and consequently reduces the risk of glare during night-time driving by automatically recognising vehicles travelling the opposite way.
HILL DESCENT CONTROL
Hill Descent Control (integrated with Traction+) will help you maintain the desired speed without having to continuously apply the brake. It can be activated with a dedicated button on the dashboard and ensures vehicle stability on steep descents, travelling safely, especially in the case of low-grip surfaces. Descents will be smoother and more controlled on uneven ground, without having to continuously press the brake.
FULL BRAKE CONTROL
The device is designed to prevent or mitigate the severity of a collision. Integrated with the LDWS, it can recognise obstacles in front of the vehicle and, in the event of a possible collision, will alert you immediately. If necessary, it will also initiate an automatic and assisted braking procedure.
