New Ducato 2021: ADAS
The Ducato 2021 model takes a step forward in terms of safety and ease of driving, further increasing the range of ADAS equipment offered. The previously developed safety systems have been improved and new ones have been added to create a truly extensive equipment package! Getting behind the wheel of the new Ducato means experiencing a surprisingly pleasurable drive, but also feeling protected, which is very important for everyone who uses Ducato-based vehicles for holidaying with family and friends.
How about some examples? First up is the fundamental electronic stability system (ESC), which has been further improved both with stabilisation systems in the event of strong crosswinds and trailer skidding, and with the introduction of the Post Collision Braking System, which applies the brakes in the event of a collision, to prevent secondary impacts. Traction+ needs no introduction, as it is already known and appreciated by many motorhome owners for providing traction control on difficult terrain and for the additional Hill Descent Control system, which maintains speed on the steepest descents. The new Ducato 2021 enriches the ADAS equipment offering with Attention Assist, which monitors the driver’s fatigue and warns of a potential lack of attention while driving, and 360 Park Assist, a set of parking sensors located in the bumpers (front and rear) and side mouldings, which enables the driver to activate a semi-automatic parking manoeuvre. The new Digital Central Rearview Mirror is a really important feature for Ducato-based motorhomes, which turns the central rearview mirror into a digital display that clearly projects what is happening behind the vehicle, thanks to a wide-angle camera. The Autonomous Emergency Brake Control takes a step forward too: it can now detect cyclists and pedestrians in addition to vehicles, triggering autonomous emergency braking if necessary. The driver is also assisted by the Hill Holder, which prevents the vehicle from rolling backward when starting uphill, and TPMS, which monitors the tyre pressure, in addition to Blind Spot Assist, which warns the driver of approaching vehicles that are not visible in the wing mirrors. Level 2 autonomous driving
All the above safety devices are already available, but from 2022 Ducato will take a further step forward by providing additional driver assistance systems in the form of three new ADAS, which together will enable Level 2 autonomous driving. Motorhomes built on the new Ducato base will be among the first in the world capable of Level 2 autonomous driving: a ground-breaking technological advance that allows drivers to set their vehicle to autonomous driving mode and thus enjoy a unique travel experience. The technologies that enable Level 2 autonomous driving include Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Centring and Traffic Jam Assist, three major new ADAS that coordinate to control the vehicle in predefined steering, acceleration and braking scenarios.
