Choose your travelling companions carefully

It may seem obvious, but it’s absolutely not. Choosing well the people who will be with you 24/7 in a particular context such as a motorhome trip can be a make or break decision for its success. This is not to say that you should only travel with people who think like you - coming into contact with other points of view is always character-building - but your chosen companions should certainly be aware of and above all share the philosophy of your trip. An on-the-road trip has very different characteristics from a holiday with a fixed destination: unforeseen events can occur and often not everything goes exactly to plan. It is precisely these situations that are the most difficult to handle, but if managed in the best possible way, they will certainly leave you with pleasant memories.

Establish a budget and decide on the main stages of the trip

Often the choice of the first stopping point automatically influences the decision as to where the second one will be.

Once you have decided on your budget, with your friends, make a list of the places you would like to visit on board your Fiat Ducato-based motorhome and, above all, how many days you are prepared to travel for. Once you have done this, exclude the most expensive destinations or those that would take you too long because they are too far apart.

After establishing the main stops, plan an outline of the route. Visualising everything on a map will help you understand how best to divide up the things to do and see, so optimising your time.

Consider the distances

The beauty of this type of holiday is precisely the time spent travelling. Plan your journeys so that you travel along provincial roads as much as possible. In this way you can drive through and get to know different places, as well as save a little extra on motorway tolls. Of course, the travelling time may be longer, so it is important to carefully consider the distances between destinations and make a few extra stops.

Share the tasks, but not too much

When travelling in a group, it is normal for each member to feel they are better at doing certain activities rather than others. Before setting off, divide up the tasks roughly: decide who will take care of the shopping, who will take a turn of the driving and who will organise the travel between stops. But do not get hung up on different tasks. In fact, if everyone makes their own contribution in every situation, so much the better.

Prepare a logbook

Before you and your friends leave, do some research on the places you would like to go and some of the activities you would like to do once you are there. Jot down the addresses of a few restaurants (it will save you time searching on the spot!) and the most important attractions. During the trip, use your notebook to collect thoughts and impressions of the time you spend together (you never know, with such beautiful sunsets in front of you, you might want to share your joy!).

Above all, don’t forget to decorate it with snapshots of your fantastic trip. This way, situations, places and laughter will remain etched not only in your memory, but also in your logbook, for a long time.
