TRAVELLING IN A MOTORHOME AND OPTIMISING RESOURCES: HERE ARE SOME TIPS FOR YOUR NEXT TRIP WITH DUCATO

TOURING IN A MOTORHOME

Those who decide to travel by motorhome often do so because they love being in contact with nature. This is why motorhomes and sustainability are obviously made for each other!

With an eye on convenience, user-friendliness and availability, here are Ducato's tips on how to travel ecologically, from eco-camping to cleaning products, by simply changing the small everyday habits of life aboard your motorhome!

1. Start the engines, turn off the water and...

Water is a precious commodity, which is why we should always be careful with it. When travelling in a motorhome, then, given the limited capacity of the tanks, avoiding wastage becomes even more important. In addition to using a few small, everyday tricks to limit water wastage, such as the classic example of turning off the tap when brushing your teeth, you can also install regulators on your taps to limit the flow and allow you to better manage your reserve. There are different kings, from flow limiters, which allow you to regulate the flow as needed, to water savers that mix air and water to still offer a powerful jet while using much less water.

2. Keep it light on the road!

The lighter you travel, the easier your motorhome will travel the distance that separates you from your chosen destination. A lighter weight helps to limit fuel consumption. As well as not overloading your motorhome with luggage, we recommend that you avoid setting off with a completely full water tank and only fill it up once you have arrived at your destination. Water also weighs a lot and, for the same reason, it would be useful to be able to empty the grey water before setting off again.

Once you have arrived at your destination, consider carefully where to park. At first glance it would seem almost obvious but, on reflection, even the position of your Ducato-based motorhome can make a difference in terms of saving money and energy. In winter, in fact, parking your motorhome in a position the sun reaches earlier and where it stays for longer, so warming up the interior, will certainly allow you to save on your energy bill, as will parking in the shade in summer.

3. Watch out for waste!

The subject of waste is always very sensitive and should not be underestimated when travelling in your Ducato-based motorhome. Every region and country has its own waste regulations, so it is important to find out about these so that you can sort your waste in the most suitable way.

In addition to this, it is essential to minimise waste by reusing all those materials that could still be useful for a second purpose. In the kitchen, avoid using disposable crockery or use biodegradable crockery, which can be washed or reused several times.

4. Naturally responsible

The cleaning and personal hygiene products we use can also have an impact on the environment, so it is important to choose them carefully. Favouring solid soaps and detergents over the ones we usually use also favours a reduction in plastic waste. The chemical composition of these products also has less impact on the environment.

If you like to experiment, you could even try making your own DIY soap. Fun to make and great for nature!

5. Eco-camping: a green break

A holiday aboard your Ducato-based motorhome will obviously include some stops. Even when choosing your campsites, you can follow a greener, more ecological philosophy by choosing to stay at the increasingly popular eco-camping sites. These are campsites that are not only built with sustainable and local materials, but also base their activities on certain rules that meet the need to preserve nature, such as:

  • the use of renewable energy, both for electricity and hot water production;

  • the organisation of environment-related activities;

  • the collection and use of rainwater;

  • the cultivation of an organic vegetable garden that tourists can also use and tend to;

  • the promotion of a more sustainable kind of mobility for excursions and leisure, often offering bicycle hire or promoting the use of local transport.

It is also a good idea to bring your own bicycles with you so that you can move along short stretches quickly and easily without having to resort to other means of transport.

So, opting for an eco-friendly holiday and a trip that is respectful of nature and the environment is now increasingly possible.
