The Cavallino Treporti area close to Venice has always been a popular destination for open-air tourism

TOURING IN A MOTORHOME

April officially opens the tourist season in Cavallino Treporti, the European resort with the largest influx of open-air tourism lovers. The Italian municipality, located only a few kilometres from Venice, has for some time now developed a network of campsites so that those travelling by motorhome can also enjoy moments of relaxation, immersed in nature but with a high quality of services. So why not hop aboard our Ducato-based motorhome and head for this destination?

Italian road trip

Perhaps not everyone knows that Cavallino Treporti is one of Italy's largest tourist resorts: it hosts over 6 million visitors a year, and its appeal focuses strongly on the natural environment. The territory of this municipality in Veneto is very special: it is a 15-kilometre-long strip of land, lapped by the waves of the Adriatic Sea on one side, while on the other side it looks onto the Venice Lagoon. Not only are there a large number of campsites here, but according to the classification compiled by ADAC (Europe's largest automobile club), this location has the highest concentration in Europe of 'Superplatz': top campsites in terms of quality of facilities.

Nature and comfort in Veneto

The secret of Cavallino Treporti's success? Undoubtedly the ability to cater for the desires of tourists who seek life in the open air, in nature, but without sacrificing comfort and quality services. A holiday in this location with our Ducato-based motorhome can be an opportunity to visit Venice and its islands, such as Burano, Murano and Torcello. A boat service constantly connects Cavallino Treporti with St. Mark's Square and other mesmerising spots in Venice and the lagoon. And after visiting these world-famous tourist sites, we can enjoy the tranquillity offered by the lagoon side of Cavallino Treporti.

Entering an extremely enchanting area, where land and water merge, we can admire the countless species of birds and small animals that find their natural habitat here. When visiting the lagoon, there is only one speed: slow, like the rhythms of nature. We can park our motorhome and take to the country roads and trails either on foot, or on a bike, and pedal to our heart’s content.

Cycling on the Venetian lagoon

In recent years, Cavallino Treporti has made major investments to improve its cycling trails, setting up a number of routes protected from road traffic. This focus on green and sustainable mobility finds its fullest expression in the bicycle path suspended over the lagoon. Recently inaugurated, it is set to become the longest suspended cycle path in Europe, stretching for a total of more than 20 kilometres. Made of steel and wood, it is embellished with striking LED lighting that makes for charming night-time cycling excursions. There are beaches and campsites on one side, and the lagoon on the other with its natural beauty, but Cavallino Treporti is also home to a thriving agricultural trade that enables guests to taste locally grown fruit and vegetable. Together with the fish caught in the waters of the Adriatic, the products of the land complete a varied food and drink offer, also featuring the finest wines of the Veneto region.
