Vienna is a romantic, magical destination, full of the joys of Christmas. If you're planning a getaway to the Austrian capital with your camper, don't miss the charming Christmas markets set up around the city. There are many of them, all special. We have compiled a list of the most charming, elegant and unmissable markets for you, where artisan products, food and Christmas decorations take centre stage. The aromas of punch, gingerbread, toasted almonds and honey are enough to put anyone in the mood to celebrate.
The Christmas markets are an age-old tradition, dating back to a time when shopping was done in the Autumn, at the end of the annual anniversaries. The first Christkindelmarkt (markets of the Baby Jesus) took place in the late Middle Ages, in the areas of Germany, Alsace and Austria. Gradually the tradition extended to the whole of central and northern Europe where, as well as markets, coloured candles are lit during Advent to mark the birth of Christ.
In recent decades, the phenomenon has also reached southern Europe.
Vienna, which has always been one of the most popular capitals during the Christmas season, offers visitors some of the most wonderful markets, set in scenes of great architectural appeal and elegance. Park your camper, and let's scout out the most famous sites:

Countless stalls that offer artisan products and regional and international gastronomic specialities have something for everybody. In addition, the wide variety of cultural events offered in this area blend harmoniously with the romantic atmosphere of the fantastic illuminations.
